Bringing up your child is a very rewarding and important job. But it can be stressful at times, both for the baby and for the parents! However, simple signs taken from British Sign Language can help your baby communicate with you, long before they are able to utter their first word! Its easy, its fun to learn, and it helps your baby develop not just the tools to let you know what he wants, but also build the solid foundations for a confident and happy child.
Baby Sign Language builds on babies' natural tendency to gesture. And signs are just as easy for a baby to learn as waving, clapping, and pointing. Every parent is keen to teach their baby to wave 'bye bye' when they are around 7-8 months old. Waving 'bye bye' can be appropriatly used by the baby at that age - so why not add a few more easy gestures to your baby's vocabulary?
Signing Babies can clearly communicate their thoughts and desires. This helps reduce frustration, foster trust and deepen the connection between babies and their parents.
By using signs in tandem with their spoken language, you can start the process of two-way communication with your baby as early as six months and enhance the verbal language development of their babies in the process.
'Signing Babies' offers dynamic workshops and classes based on Dr Joseph Garcia's original and AWARD WINNING Baby Signing program "Sign With Your Baby".
Baby Signing helps hearing babies to communicate but the classes are also suitable for Deaf children and/or Deaf parents as well as children with speech delay and additional needs.
We strongly believe that a Baby Signing teacher should have a recognised sign language qualification to ensure that the signs you learn are recognised by everyone else who uses BSL Baby Signing and children/ adults who use Sign Language as their main way of communicating.
Our minimum requirement for Signing Babies teachers is BSL level 1, but most instructors are qualified at BSL LEVEL 2 above and some also possess a teaching certificate. This enables us to open up the classes to Deaf or Hard of Hearing parents and Children as well. For this purpose, we also have 2 Deaf mothers who act as Sign Language advisors.
With over 4 years experience, Signing Babies has a wealth of exciting songs, stories and rhymes to sign to. We have built a large network of other Baby Signing teachers nationally and beyond, which gives us the best and most up-to date ideas and resources.
Our small class sizes mean you and your baby get all our attention, you are made to feel welcome and not rushed and get a chance to talk to the other parents while baby plays after the session.
Some wonderful friendships have formed in our classes over the years, and people come back for further classes. Some mums are now attending with their third baby!
