These are some of the comments of the mothers in our classes:

“I started baby signing classes with Katja when Emmy was 6 months old and warmed to it immediately. We learnt really useful signs like milk, nappy change, all clean, food, sleep, mummy, daddy etc. which were really relevant to our everyday routine and with a bit of repetition soon became part of our everyday communication.

The way Katja runs the classes is through lots of songs, puppets, pictures, musical instruments and actions which is great fun for everyone. She is SO enthusiastic and animated the classes fly by and babes, mummies and daddies are all captivated. Lots of the songs became regular features at home too and she provides reference sheets to help remind you of what to do.

It took a while for Emmy to start actually signing back to me- probably around 10 months - but I could tell she understood me long before this. A highlight for me was when she was around a year old and we were in Tescos - she started frantically gesturing with her hands and looking very excited. After a couple of seconds I realised she was signing ‘milk' to me as I stood there holding the milk cartons. It really made me laugh.

She's now 18 months and saying lots of words verbally but some signs have stuck - plane, food, home, dog, amongst others.

“Thank you Signing Babies for your wonderful classes and for teaching me and Max how to communicate with each other! He did his first sign  ( ‘ milk') when he was 7 months old and I nearly fell off my chair!

He is 11 months now and he does about 15 signs, but he understands around 30. I feel he is so much more settled and happy as a result.

I love the classes, they have not only taught me to sign with Max, but we have learned tons of Nursery Rhymes, most of which I once knew but had long forgotten. We both love the musical aspect of the classes and of course all the puppets! ”

“ I have found babysigning very helpful in getting Luke to communicate his needs as he doesn't say any words yet and can get a bit frustrated. I started the beginners course with Katja when Luke was about 7 months and he started to sign at about 11 months. He can sign seven words now, with two new signs today! I have just started the advanced classes which will keep up the introduction of new words for Luke to try.  Luke loves signing with Signing Sam and singing along saying Hello to all his friends he has met along the way. I would recommend baby signing to anyone with a child, the younger you start to sign with your baby the better.

Its been good to get back into the classes and seeing people again after Christmas, I'm now waiting for the signing explosion which I'm sure will come with two lots of baby signing a week! ”

Thanks Katja!

"I just wanted to let you know that Amelia now signs a lot.

Unfortunately you never got to see her sign in the class but now she

does about 20 different signs and it has made our life easier.  It

seems that as soon as she has learnt to say the word the signing for

that particular word stops too.

Thank you for all of the lessons we attended.  I think signing is

amazing and you are a great motivating teacher."  (Nicola Green)

"I wanted to let you know that Charlotte met her two cousins that are profoundly deaf yesterday for the first time.  It was amazing to watch.  She sat and had constant eye contact with them and they chatted away for a good 20 minutes solid, with only a couple of interventions from me.  I wish I had had a video camera with me.  She was using signs I had never seen her use and copied signs from Jeremy and Jenny immediately!  They were so impressed and so was she!

Thank you Katja!"  (Susan, Harpenden)

"We started signing when my eldest, Beatrice, was 3 months old, as it was fun to do with your baby.

When she was 12 months old, her 14 month old cousin Cody was found to be profoundly deaf, so we suddenly really needed to learn the signs.

Beatrice is now 3years and 2 months.  We still do signing with Katja, and are able to communicate effectively with her cousin.  Beatrice has always been advanced in her speech and language, which I believe was greatly assisted by the signing, and following the latest course - language and literacy - she can suddenly read!  We learned the words "c a t" and "p i g" in the class, so I put them up on the fridge with magnets.

On Sunday evening I sat showing them to her, and suddenly she realised what it said.  Not only that, but she could do others: "sun", "tin" "sat" "mat"  "tap" and over the last few days, she will do as many as I can think of!  She loves to help Pippa (her little sister) with her signing "homework" and will sit at the table singing and signing while she waits for her dinner!

So a MASSIVE thank you to Katja and Julianne.  We have found all of your classes HUGELY beneficial!" (Caroline Presland, Knebworth)
